I don’t know about you but when I read articles that pump me up for success I get grandiose ideas of what life could be like.
Let’s sell the house and sink everything we have into a business.
Let’s get the next degree.
Let’s start that remodel.
Let’s do it!
There are two thoughts I have about this idea high.
1. It looks a lot like hard work when I get done reading the article. It’s easy to take those first few steps towards reaching our goals, but at the end of the day it’s just ends up being a lot of hard work.
This means that ideas are the easy part. If we want to achieve them we need to be in it for the long haul. Calling college advisors is fun, but going back for the Master’s degree loses its grandeur when we are up at midnight after the kids go to bed to study.
2. Am I successful and do great things right where I am? What if my goal is to be the best I am at my current job, in my current town, and in my current life? What if I just want to be great at what I do now?
There are people who will live and die in the same small town in middle America, and you know what? That’s okay. There are people who will live and die in the same large city. They will never step foot in rural America. You know what? That’s okay too.
Perhaps what the world needs is for us to use our talents right where we are. Perhaps we don’t have to move, or go somewhere else to make it big. Perhaps we just need to dig our roots in deep, and make where we are a great place!
Where there is life, there is opportunity. The WWW makes it possible for us to connect around the world. So we can impact our local area, and we can impact others we will never meet in person. We have the opportunity to change the world right from our living room.
This concept is something my dad tried to teach me, though I didn’t always listen. Be great, Marc, be great now. Find your place in the world, and make an impact, and if your place in the world is in a small town in Indiana that’s okay. Life is about making an impact in peoples lives, and it doesn’t matter where we do that.
I am at a time in my life where I need to figure out how to be whole. I need to concentrate on my whole person being healthy. I used to think that to achieve great things I needed to move, and do more. I have always felt that I never had enough to achieve my goals.
I need more education, skills, experience, etc. Do I? Perhaps I have everything I need to make an impact, and perhaps the place I live in now needs me to make that impact. Perhaps where you live needs you to make an impact where you are.
Our world needs us. The greatest way to make change is to start right where we are. If you woke up this morning and took a breath, then you have all you need to achieve great things.
You don’t need permission, my blog article, or a change of location to do something great. Start now, start where you are. When you do send me a note. I want to hear about the great things you are doing.
